Playing Mathematical Poker: Know Your Odds!
The main feature of Poker Pal is the winning chance probability
percentage. Consider a game of Texas Hold'em where there are 5
players total. Before the hole cards are even dealt, each player
has a 1 in 5 (or 20%) chance of winning that hand. If, after the
hole cards have been dealt, a player suddenly only has a 14%
chance of winning, she would be making a mathematically incorrect
call if she were to continue playing the hand. Knowing when to
“hold'em” or “fold'em” is the key to being a successful Poker
player.
Additionally, Poker Pal integrates the use of pot odds (either
true or implied) in it's calculations. When you play online, Poker
Pal keeps track of all the bets, calls and raises and
automatically calculates pot odds on-the-fly. The object is
simple: if your winning chance is greater than your pot odds
percentage then it is mathematically favorable. If not, then the
pot odds are unfavorable. Often, it is advisable to call with
relatively bad cards (low win chance) simply because of favorable
pot odds. The laws of mathematics suggests that, if you do so, you
will profit in the long run.
Using all this information, Poker Pal will even give
suggestions for new and novice players to help you learn the game.
After using the software for a while as you play, you'll find that
your game improves and you'll more readily recognize bad plays and
missed opportunities. In more scientific natured games such as
Omaha Hi/Lo or any 7 Card Stud game, Poker Pal comes into it's own
by instantly helping you with the complex aspects of the game. For
example, in 7 Card Stud, Poker Pal keeps track of all face up
cards on the board and any that have been folded earlier in the
hand. This information is taken into account when Poker Pal is
performing calculations.
